Information about YES-DC

What is YES-DC?
The Young Energy Specialists and Development Co-operation (YES-DC) is an association of students and young professionals interested and/or working in the field of energy and international co-operation. YES-DC started informally as a means to improve contacts within the network, and to facilitate the exchange of information and experiences. Since March 1996, YES-DC has officially been established as an association. Personal contact and member's initiatives have remained the foundations of YES-DC.

Who is YES-DC?
The members of YES-DC are young professionals and students in the field of energy and/or development. They work with universities, government, research institutions, NGOs and in the private sector. Several are working outside the Netherlands. The board of YES-DC consists of 7 members and has a facilitating and stimulating role: taking care of a financial and organisational framework. Within this framework, members organise activities, choosing their own subjects and approaches. In a yearly assembly, members decide on the goals, framework and activities of YES-DC, and a new board is elected.

What do we do?
YES-DC organises monthly
activities, such as excursions, lectures and debating sessions in the field of energy and/or development co-operation. A special activity is the DEO-Day (Debate on Energy), which is organised on a biannual basis. Various junior and senior experts are invited to participate in energy and development co-operation related discussions. In a quarterly newsletter, members are informed on new developments, congresses, ideas and job opportunities in the field. For its members only, YES-DC publishes an annual member directory, which contains relevant personal and professional data on members. For interested third parties, YES-DC provides additional networking facilities in exchange for a small donation, for instance to communicate job opportunities. In this way, YES-DC has already been able to tie several members and employers happily together. Furthermore, YES-DC hosts a discussion list, which is frequently used for discussions and exchange of information on the field.
