There are several reasons why energy projects are unsuccessful or not even realized, the main reasons is that expected energy savings or sustainable energy production rates are not realized and financing energy savings measure is often difficult to arrange. To tackle these problems, smart and innovative business models are developed in order to achieve energy savings and renewable energy production, called Energy Service Companies.

On January 22nd, three key speakers will elaborate on the subject. Questions like: What is an ESCO and how does it work? And what should be done in order to establish a strong ESCO industry in the Netherlands? are discussed during the evening.

About the speakers

Albert Hulshoff is regarded as a much sought consultant for Energy Service Company’s (ESCo’s). Mister Hulshoff previously had held positions at NL Agency as program advisor, where he focused on the sustainability of the commercial real estate sector. He was initiator of the publication ‘Guidance performance contracting management and maintenance of buildings’ and was principal of the BuildDesk study ‘CO2 reduction potential of ESCO’s in non-residential buildings’. Nils Beers works at BAM Utility, part of Royal BAM Group and currently is coordinator of Green Liz, a new initiative of BAM. Green Liz aims at making utility buildings more sustainable by implementing insulation measures, LED lighting and solar panels. Green Liz just signed a contract for improve all the sports halls in the Province of Drenthe using their concept. In projects, Green Liz uses the knowledge and experience of three strong partners: TU Delft, Greenem and Total Care Company.

Freek Kortekaas is account manager renewable energy at Triodos Investment management. Triodos Investment Management is a specialist in developing and managing sustainable investment funds. Triodos Investment Management manages 19 investment funds that each invest in different sustainability themes and/or have different risk-returns profiles. The funds focus on investments in renewable energy, sustainable real estate, culture, organic farming, microfinance in developing countries and investments in listed companies that meet strict sustainability criteria (SRI funds). Mister Kortekaas is financing and structuring renewable energy and energy efficiency projects from a senior debt perspective.
