Nuclear: getting to the core
On 12 September YES-DC will host a lecture on nuclear energy, specifically on the potential of thorium reactors. Thorium-based nuclear reactors are often proposed as an alternative to conventional nuclear energy because of its resource abundance, high energy intensity and improved safety. Nuclear energy is currently the most controversial energy source in the debate on the energy transition. By some it is seen as the ultimate solution to the future low-carbon energy supply, while being resolutely rejected by others.
Our guest speaker for the evening will be Jan Leen Kloosterman, professor of nuclear reactor physics at TU Delft and a leading proponent of thorium-based nuclear energy. He will provide us with first-hand information on the current developments in the field of thorium reactors and answer the burning questions from the audience.
Programme:
19:00 – Walk-in
19:30 – Welcome and introduction to YES-DC
19:45 – Presentation by prof. Jan Leen Kloosterman and Q&A with the audience
21:00 – Closing remarks and networking drinks
Please get your tickets on Eventbrite. The event is free for our members and first-timers (as a non-member your first event with YES-DC is free to attend).
