Peak oil; implications for a global energy transition

Oil production will peak. Projections on the timing of peak oil, however, vary widely. Factors underlying (peak) oil production trends are explained and discussed in this talk by Simon Kalf (Peak Oil Nederland). Implications from a peaking oil production are illustrated such as its effect on sustaining economic growth. The emphasis this evening will be on how the peak oil concept links to a global energy transition and decarbonising the global energy supply.

Which risks follow from an underestimation of the timing of peak oil?
To what respect do the actions that are (not) taken to reform fuel use alter when peak oil is near?
Does the notion of peak oil add value to the discussion of energy transition in the context of climate change and increasing scarcity of (easy-to-access and affordable) fossil resources?
