Liberalization and Geopolitics

Speakers: Jeroen de Joode (ECN), Martien Visser (Gasunie)

Dear YES-DC members,

You are invited to the following activity on Tuesday 14 November 2006:

"Liberalization and Geopolitics"

The activity will take place in Florin, Utrecht (www.florinutrecht.nl). At 19.00 the room will be open, at 19.30 the presentations will start.

Jeroen de Joode working at ECN will start with an introduction on European energy – infrastructure, focussing on the physical aspects of the gas-market. How does it work, both technically and economically? About the policy-background of liberarization of energymarkets, he will tell what was the motivation to introduce respective policies. And now they have been introduced, what are the problems that are encountered?

Martien Visser working at Gasunie will deal with practical experiences concerning liberalization and geopolitics of gas. The contact with Gazprom will be described and investments in infrastructure will be discussed. Where does competition end and regulation starts?

As a point for discussion, European interests versus national interests are being deatl with. For example: who will get the benefits of the gasfield Slochteren?

We hope to see you at Florin!

Best regards,

Gerard Stienstra (Chairman YES-DC)
Haike van de Vegte (Coordinator Activities YES-DC)
